The Salt Spring Island Poultry Club was formed in 2009 and is a club for local breeders, backyard flock owners and pet owners of any type of poultry. Our members share, learn, promote, and encourage each other in a family-friendly and social atmosphere.

Over the past years our club has continued to grow, with almost 600 Poultry enthusiasts in our group.  The Salt Spring Poultry Club organizes live and virtual educational events, as well as runs the Salt Spring Island Fall Fair Poultry Show, the fair “Chicken Races”, a live bird auction and fun “egg smash” for the kids at the Fall Fair Event.   We are one of the highest attended exhibits at the fair, and host the largest number of volunteers providing education and entertainment to thousands of attendees.

This support allows us to welcome a travelling judge, and provide additional prizing to our participants! We know keeping poultry is expensive, and we hope this additional prize money will help our poultry enthusiasts feed, house and continue to work on their breeds! 

Our 2022 Fall event will be Sept  8-10 2023 at the Salt Spring Island Fall Fair   Fall Fair Entry Form

  • Our show will be at the Farmers Institute, Salt Spring Island . It will be hosted in a well ventilated barn.
  • Our event will be open to attendees to visit (fee at entry), and be promoted across the region (Vancouver Island) as a community event.
  • We will have onsite food, activities, vendors, live music and more to engage and entertain our attendees and visitors.

 

Our Show judge will be Clayton Botkin from Fraser Valley, BC  and there will be additional prizes (above and beyond the prizes listed in the Fall Fair Registration book) awarded for winning birds.

 

This is a THREE day event. 

Coop in – Friday September 8, 330-730PM. NO FORMAL VET CHECK required for Poultry, but this year we will be asking all participates to have their birds screened by our team before caging. Birds who exhibit illness will not be admitted.

 

Coop Out- After 5pm Sunday September 10.

Ferry service to salt spring island is as follows:
From Vancouver – Tsawwassen to LONG HARBOUR   OR Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay and thru to FULFORD

From Victoria–  Swartz Bay to Fulford (ferries run on the odd hour, every 2 hours)

From Duncan– Crofton ferry to Vesuvius.
